Tarun and Varun Bhasin commissioning into their father’s regiment cements a childhood bond
Born into an army family it was but natural for Tarun and Varun Bhasin, aged 24 and 22 years, respectively, to dream of joining not merely their father’s profession but his very regiment. Their dream did come true when just before their passing out parade they were informed that they would be commissioned into the Guards.

And June 14 was the day when both brothers passed out together to join their father’s regiment. It was indeed a proud moment for their parents. Avers Tarun enthusiastically, “Our parents, particularly my Dad Lt. Col. Indra Bhushan Bhasin, was ecstatic. The battalion life that we enjoyed with our father influenced us tremendously. We were pampered a lot in the battalion. It’s an honour to join the very same regiment.
Asked whether the profession of arms was their first and only choice, they inform almost in unison, “Most certainly, yes. Army gives us the opportunity to lead men from the front, make decisions, which influence many lives, be responsible and lead the most dignified lives. No other career offers this opportunity. We never were attracted with the monetary aspects in life.
We never felt we lacked anything in life. I think what we get in the army is at par with the best that we can get in the civil. But no other career can match the facilities we get in the army. Army is like a big family and we feel great to be part of it.
Joining one’s father’s regiment is regarded as the ultimate achievement in the army about which the Bhasin brothers are elated. “Young officers in the battalions are treated as kids. They are looked up to, to enthuse more josh in the battalions which we will probably do in a month, promises Varun.
Tarun has a piece of advice for those who do not want to join the army. “This is a profession of our choice. Those who do not want to must not join the army, because if they are forced to, they will bring down the morale of others. It’s very difficult for people who forcibly join the army to adjust here.
